Hi Jon,

Look in the shop manual, it's on page 4/28! Of course that's the 1966 Ford Shop Manual.

Might those really be called "Rear Axel Shaft Bearing Retainer Bolts?" If so the torque value is 55-65 Ft lb.

Here are the specifications pages for the 1966 rear ends (8.3/4; 9; and, 9 3/8 inch):

If you need any more info, let me know!

thanks Julie

I found a vague reference on a disk brake conversion article that said 55# so I was gonna start there

I also found this (never seen it before)... which gives general guidelines for bolt size... and it pretty much agrees...

General Torque Specifications:
1/4″ Grade 5 10lb/ft 1/4″ Grade 8 14lb/ft
5/16″ Grade 5 19lb/ft 5/16″ Grade 8 29lb/ft
3/8″ Grade 5 33lb/ft 3/8″ Grade 8 47lb/ft
7/16″ Grade 5 54lb/ft 7/16″ Grade 8 78lb/ft
1/2″ Grade 5 78lb/ft 1/2″ Grade 8 119lb/ft
9/16″ Grade 5 114lb/ft 9/16″ Grade 8 169lb/ft
5/8″ Grade 5 154lb/ft 5/8″ Grade 8 230lb/ft
