Reflash PSD PCM?

I am converting my 95 F350 CC LWB 2wd to a 5 speed. I found EMD_DRIVER's post in the 6.9 and 7.3 area, and he has been very helpful.

Since I have a PSD, can I simply use a PCM out of a manual truck or do I have to have the dealer reflash mine, or reflash the manual computer?

Seems like the control of the engine would be the same, regardless of tranny, and if I take the electronic tranny out of the equation, then the manual truck computer would plug up and go. Several posts around the internet I have found say just swap the pcm and go.

Any advice?

I have heard of guys changing from auto to manual and not changing the PCM but I don,t think you can do it the other way around from what I gather the auto and manual PCM,s are different

Here is what I found out. After pulling a PCM from a 1995 (same year as mine) F350 Dually at the salvage yard and installing it in mine, the truck ran terrible. Took almost full throttle to get to highway speed. It was as if the turbo wasn't spooling up, I couldn't hear it or feel it.

I called Jody at DP Tuners in Georgia and he said that they are not all the same, even if they are all powerstrokes. Gearing and other factors caused Ford to tune them differently.

Ford cannot change the PCM, only reflash it according to the original program by using your VIN. Jody is able to take a PCM from a auto, like mine, and reprogram it for a manual. He cannot go from a manual to an auto.

I sent him the PCM and he reconfigured it, and added a 60 hp towing tune to it.

I installed the PCM yesterday and it works like a charm. I can also tell a difference with the 60 hp boost.

As far as I can tell from my research, the above information is true and accurate and the only way to change the computer. I hope this helps anyone in the same situation as me!!

That is a good question. Being new to this PSD stuff, I didn't know there were updates! I would have to ask DP Tuners about that.

How do you know when you need them and what they are?

I was told that the two I got were supposed to help with start up. I did notice easier starts.
