75 F100 FMX Transmission

I have a truck that I'm parting out. Looking at the transmission, it has 14 pan bolts which according to the LMC catalog makes it a FMX/Cruisomatic automatic transmission. I had heard the C6 is stronger than the C4. Where does the FMX transmission fit into the mix? Truck was pretty much an original farm truck so I'm assuming it's the original transmission. It's a 302 w/ AC, PS, and PB. What determined what transmission went into what truck? Thanks, Shane

I'm pretty sure the order, from weakest to strongest is FMX, C4, C6... FMX I think went into mostly 2 WD trucks like mine.. light duty, although I have a set of helper springs on mine and have hauled more than I should have on it at times, It seems pretty stout..The FMX that is
As for originality, I'm pretty sure that that's the original trans in is as is the one in my truck, a 75 F100.. A/C, huh.. lucky you... I have to crank all the windows down and open the vents in mine...... a retofit may be in store...

P.S .. What kind of shape is the bed in.. the piece of metal by the tailgate on mine is pretty much gone on my truck.. the guy I work with.. who happens to be a good welder is going to help me cut out the rust and repace it with fresh metal....

My '74 Explorer 302 also has it's orginal FMX transmission. My Granddad had never replaced it or rebuilt it and it was still running when I got the truck in 2006. I had a good friend of mine (who owns a transmission shop locally) rebuild that transmission for me. He said that it should be equal to the C-4 but a lot heavier (since it has a cast steel case instead of cast aluminum).

Cast steel case?? I was under the impression that those were cast iron cases on those FMX trannies..
How much does a rebuild usually cost? My truck only has around 42,000 original miles on it....I just changed the filter the other day because it would wait til I pulled out of somewhere to kick down.. as in I would stop at an intersection and go to turn...It seems to be working alot better though since the filter change... Plus..I keep checking the fluid and it hasn't used any yet... Of course it never used any to begin with it was just really nasty looking, hence the filter change

Sorry, my brain had the day off . . . it is cast iron. Yes, it is definately a heavy SOB and it is definately not aluminum.

Thanks for the help. The automatic truck is a parts truck. The 77 explorer I'm working on has none of the extras. Trying to recoupe some of the costs by selling a few parts off the truck before I get rid of it.
