Intermittent wiper upgrade done, but it doesn't work right!

Hi all,
My parts truck had a 78-79 wiper control on it. I think it worked correctly. I popped it into my daily driver today, but it doesn't work as expected: nothing on low speed, high speed is low speed, nothing in the intermittent section. Sprayer works fine.
Is there something I missed doing? Or is the wiper control pooched?

Hi frankensteined_67,
There was no wiring involved, it was strictly plug-and-play -- the plugs are exactly the same. I'll look for your pm. Thanks!

Edit: interestingly, there's no ground wire on mine as shown in the pic on the other site.

that ground may be the missing link to the equation. that ground on the pic looks like it comes right out of the connector not the relay.

So the ground seems to be missing (as shown in the photo below). I think tomorrow I'll try installing it into the dash and see if the ground from the dash is enough...

Thanks for the help!

Darrell, Do you have the black box that is part of the delay system under the dash and the ground wire connected?

As noted it is all plug & play, one wire & ground to connect.

So I tried to solder on a wire with no success. In desperation I used some jb weld. Dunno if jb weld conducts electricity, going to find out tomorrow morning!

Darrell, Do you have the black box that runs the delay?

DarrellJ, JB Weld is non conductive. You might have to find another switch. Good news is 80 - 91 switches will work if you can't find another 78 - 79 unit. There is one wire that has to be changed. The thread on the other site that frankensteined_67 mentioned explains it better than I can.

It might get a good enough ground if you install it in the dash, give it a try. You could also try and drill a little hole and install a screw to hold the wire on. If the switch doesn't work without the wire than if you brake the switch then you are out nothing by trying it.

It was the ground.
Simply installing the **** onto the dash and tightening down the retainer nut (which I didn't do the other day when testing it) did the trick.
Thanks guys!

Guys, there's no need to tiptoe around trying to avoid mentioning "That other site which shall not be named". FTE is always evolving and growing, and we've decided that mention of competing sites isn't going to hurt us. Mention it if you want, post the occasional link if you feel you must, but don't forget about our tech here. I found these two articles right here on FTE, hitting on both sides of the bumpsides but while I haven't yet done this mod myself, it looks as though the needed info is in here:

Installing An Intermittent Two Speed Push/Wash Windshield Wiper System On A 61-66 Ford Pickup .: Articles

How to install interval wipers on a 73-79 Ford pickup .: Articles
