turbo noise when cold
This usually happens with the first drive of the day. after, it's gone. Thu turbo makes a noise likebad friction in a bearing but not with a loud pitch. It go's away when I gas it a little more which will than make a turbo release noise. than repeats. I could make a drive, the turbo will make the noise, than ten minutes later I'll drive again and it'll opperate like it should. But the turbo will always apply boost when it should.
Any ideas?

I think you are describing the EBPV closing on cold mornings.

The EBPV would close even when its warm briefly on start up.
But yes Jim, it probably is that.
The Turbo Wheel can make some strange noises when they contact the housing.
My turbo makes a bit of noise when I first start up in the cold, its not quite lubricated as well as it could be.
If he's not getting enough oil into the journal bearings, then it will rattle around a bit and make strange noises.
When its making the noise on start up, does it make a "wooshing" sound at the tail pipe?
But yes Jim, it probably is that.

It is just below and in front of the turbo. A two wire plug connector, the only one there. The computer (PCM) will store a code that it is not working but does not CEL. I've had mine disconnected for the past two years but plugged in back in this winter to see if I could get quicker cab heat due to (global warming) cold. But it warmed up a bit here so the verdict is still out on that. Although I do think it has a purpose to get the cylinders up to temperature quicker in cold climates.
