1997 Camshaft Position Sensor Recall??

Just recieved a letter in the mail from Ford. Saying my truck hasnt had the Recall #07S57- Camshaft Position (CP) Sensor Inspection / Replacement done yet...Anyone have this issue?

What are the symptoms of a bad cam sensor?

Yeah, they pull the black one and replace with the light gray pile of crap. Luckily, by you waiting this long you will most likely get the newest generation dark gray one with purple seal that seems to be the best one so far.

I've got several letters too. For both mine and the wife's truck. You can have my letters if you want them.

As mentioned, the recall is not something you want done. A bad CPS means the truck will no longer run. If that happens, get the recall done then. On the other hand, a replacement CPS is only $25 from Ford or IH, so just pick one up and throw it in the glove box in case your CPS goes bad you don't get stranded. If it does die, swap it out and drive to Ford, then put the bad one back in and have them give you a new working one. That way you still have a spare.

You can stick your VIN in here: http://www.ford.com/owner-services/c...ll-information and see if you qualify for a free CPS. On the other hand it sucks letting a stealership touch your truck. Not to mention the SPAM you'll get on your phone/email what have you.

You are all set, if you want to get it changed and get them off your back it only takes 5 minutes to change. They put it on the lift and pull it out from underneath.

I think the cruise control "off" button on the steering wheel goes bad and they replace it, I could be wrong but it was something along those lines. I had it done, took all of five minutes. I had to have it done though as I was bringing the truck north across the border with me, and having no recalls was a requirement.

They install a inline fuse to the secondary brake lamp sensor.(pressure)

Yeah, its an inline fuse that plugs into the factory plug. It was the fix for those cab fires a few years back. It goes into the orange plug on the top end of your brake master cylinder.
