timing chain straight-up

I just bought a timing chain with zero degree, 4 ret, 4 adv. I set the crank sprocket at zero deg. I was told the cam(xe-256h) was retard 4 degrees from the manufacturer ? Now i'm confuse where to set the crank sprocket ? 4 advance ?

yeah, the comps come with 4 degrees advance so install it straight up. The stock cams/timing chains were retarded.

Set the crankshaft sprocket at 0 degree. Factory crankshaft sprocket is only one place you can set and is 4 deg retard for emission thing. Aftermarket timing chain set can be adjust 4 ret, 0(straight up) or 4 adv.

to be technically correct, the term 'straight up' refers to the intake lobe center line or ICL, not the timing set crank sprocket position

read here under 'Intake Centerline'

to install a Comp cam ground 4* advanced 'straight up' you'd need to set the crank sprocket at -4* to counter the advance ground into the cam

i'd install the timing set at 0 and check the cam position with a degree wheel to verify that it's where Comp says. short of that, just install it at 0
