I don't know when they introduced the smog pump. did this truck have one at one point or was it removed?
and does it have AC?

This is what is on my truck. I guess it is almost the same. The tensioner is just moved.

In Relationship to the smog pump, the movement of the tensioner is a pretty bid deal. On my red truck, the removal of the smog pump rendered the tensioner almost useless.

That's good info to have. I was going to ask that, but since the guy in the other thread was asking for a 95, i figure that it didn't matter.

Exclamation

OK I have a 5.8L 351 Windsor w/o the smog and w/o the AC basically the diagram in "hitokori's" post. the bottom one with the purple belt 73". but my dilemma is that every time I put a belt on it like that i shred it within a few miles because the tensioner is so tight that i pushes the belt down on itself and its rubbing against itself until it snaps. I have no AC on this mustang or smog pump and a friend of mine was saying i need a smog pump eliminator pulley. I saw one in the in the ford motorsport svo catalog 351W engine swap accessory drive kit 1985-1993 mustang M-8511-A351. i called the number for the catalog but it says its out of order. any help here would be great. this car was left to me by my uncle who committed suicide and he knew i would be the only person who would work on it and not sell it since it is worth a little bit of money. Its a 1984 mustang capri t-top, hatchback, with a 1978 351W, and 84' 302 heads, bored our .030 and stroked @ 4.000, the crank cam and rod and main bearing were all set @ .010 which is normal and everything has been converted to Blaster 2/MSD ignition, distributor, spark, coil, etc... Ford racing valve covers with 5/32 inch rubber seals. and roller tip rocker arms. Hooker headers and H-pipe true dual exhaust @ 2" with the last 2 foot at 2.5" chrome. rear end has interchangeable gears but is currently set at 3.11 posi. with the standard 7.5 inch rear end. When I convert the rear to discs then i will convert the rear to 8.8" also, but for now a new 7.5 works fine. my main concern is the belt i really need help figuring that out. do I need a ac eliminator bracket and pulley and a smog pump eliminator bracket and pulley or can I just go with a shorter belt and run it either above or below the tensioner? I'm not sure some help or advice would be greatly appreciated here. cant drive my baby.

Short belt route isn't working well.

My Broncos 302 Efi Motor has an extra pulley and the tensor its in a different position, I tried a different rute but isn't working well. see my diagrams attached.

I just did my 460 and left the pump there and removed the pulley. Mine has two belts and this one does not use a tensioner. I ran a string around the pulleys to obtain the length I needed. If I would have had a tensioner, I would just add about 1/2" to the string length. I did it with string and it works just fine and was the correct length. Sandy
