you will have to scour the yards unless you want to pay $500 for a new stock am only radio from your local ford dealer, I cant even imagine what the rarer am/fm/cassette or am/fm ones would run you. you will just have to look they are difficult to find so you will have to look at the new arrivals. good luck

Why doesent the one in there work? I have a '78 Ranger XLT with am/fm stereo and it works beautifully am and fm. Try to find an XLT package and u should get one out of there, as far as cassette i didnt know they offered it

Were these am/fm/cass radios in any other Ford - car, van, 80s pickup. Wouldn't matter if it wasn't a '79 F150, as long as it's the same radio...

Just a thought...

Yes, It does matter.

The Truck mounting faceplate is Flat across it.
Plus, the OEM radio has a notch out of it along the top front , so it fits under the heater control whn installed.

The OEM Car radio mounting has one side notched out (offset radio tuning posts) .
The radio itself doesn't have a notch out of thr top of the radio case.

ONLY the OEM TRUCK Radio WILL fit in a truck.

No problem Marty.

It took me a while to finally figure it out.

If you like, I can post a photo to show everyone what I mean?

Wrecking yards or ebay if you want an original.
And they can get pricey - AM/FM for $88.00 USD OR AM/FM Cassette for $305.00 USD.
Aftermarkets will fit - I've got a Craig head unit in mine right now -AM/FM Cassette. Works ok for a $5.00 unit!
Still got my original radio - AM only - I changed it because I am not much for all talk, sports radio or music from other countries. All the good stuff seems to be on FM.

Check on eBay. I recently sold the AM only from my truck on eBay and it only went for around 10 bucks.
