points elimination

Looking to eliminate the points in my 71 F100 / 302 / auto. I was first leaning toward a Pertronix but now I'm thinking of swapping to a Mallory or MSD non-points dist because apparently most people swap to the 'big' cap, etc.

I also read a little about just switching to a Ford electronic ignition but the link in the thread was busted. Any feedback on that?

One more thing... I have a MSD 6A laying in the parts box... should I try to integrate it in this upgrade or just sell it?

Since you have the MSD, pick up the Ford Durospark distributor. It will trigger the MSD. Your points one will also work. The points last longer since they only have to carry a small current with the MSD.

I agree with Mike here. When using the msd, the points no longer have to break the whole load (around 6 amps I think) and are only used to trigger the msd( around 0.06 amps). Under these conditions the points should last almost indefinately. And if the msd should ever crap out ,and they can do that, trust me, it's very easy to go back to the points to get it home.
