Does anyone here have any first hand knowledge of something bad happening due to somebody running a high volume oil pump? So far I havent' heard any rock solid facts or stories.

I HAVE a HV pump. No problems so far, anyway.

If your engine is stock just replace the pump with a stocker. You can't go wrong playing it safe.

Only problem that I know is possible is it is possible to break the oil pump drive shaft if you don't upgrade it. I ran a high volume in a 351 for years with a stock pump drive shaft without any problems. Other than that some people have said it is possible to suck all the oil out of the oil pan, but I find that hard to believe.

Yeah if you use a high volume pump you need a hardened pump shaft , i would recomend that on a stock pump to , the high volume pump is harder on the pump gears & puts more drag on the motor . If your not turning high RPM you will be fine with the stock pan , in high reving race motors a deep pan is recomended , but most engine builders i know of say just to use the stock oil pump . If you have a motor with worn bearings the high volume high pressure pump may help you ,,,JMO.....Lew

It adds additional stress and strain to the engine and the pump, in a case where it's not required. It can also cause oil foaming.
