starts run's and then dies ??

I have a 2004 6.0 It will start and run for a few minutes 10-20 sometime's it doesn't have a enough power to drive it. It then will then just stumble and then die, you have to wait a minute or so and while turning it over(long start) it will start again. NOTE: I have changed both fuel filters, You can hear the fuel pump cycle ( Is the frame mounted pump the only one or is there one in the tank also?) Need some help in a bad way. Any one ever seen or heard of this before? PS no - check eng light and no codes That is what is baffling me , besides fuel pump problem I do not know where to start. Thanks.

Even though you don't exactly have a "no start" condition, I think the troubleshooting info in this thread could help:

Thanks Bismic

I have that info already copied, and tried to check all I could yesterday (Sunday) The problem is the owner is a friend and he had it towed to his driveway, and believe it or not down here in GA> it has been snowing and freezing ever day. Friend or no friend it just to rough out there checking some of this,, Anyway I went back today and removed the plate off of the fuel pump (it is where all 4lines are at--- I had done this on my own truck before and found some trash in there ) His was full of red mud or rust I mean alot !! I pulled the pump off and cleaned it up and I blew the line out going back to the fuel tank, after putting it back on it made noise but would not prime the sytem. We got a new Ford pumpand put it on and He said it has never ran as good. I guess sometimes a little looking and a lot of luck still works. Thanks again ----- PS- I told him to put it in his dads shop and drop the fuel tank and clean it out good and replace the sock on the pick up.

Great job! You are certainly a good friend to do what you did considering the weather! Hope he does what you suggested regarding dropping the tank.
