My measurement, a sheet of plywood goes in, lays flat on the floor and the tail gate shuts.
If that don't happen, the bed is to small.
They call them 6.5' beds now.

It's still a short bed, same as a 1/2 ton SWB would have on it.

I thought I was wrong once but I was mistaken.

In the 70's standard size beds were long beds. Short beds were an option and cost more. Just some useless trivia.

Here's a truck that has a few ideas for ya Star. Prolly wouldn't be a good engine choice for towing tho. I've thought about putting one of these engines in a pickup before to try and make a fuel mileage rig out of it. Wonder how it would do?

Yea galute I have one of those that runs good in a 56 gmc truck.
I want this truck to be a driver which means it will be driven some long miles, so no listenening to a detroit. My hearing is bad enough lol. As far as pulling geared right they wwould do allright. I used to know an old blacksmith in arizona that had one in a 64 F250 with a 4x4 behind it. He claimed it got 25 running 80 all day long.

Huh? LOL. I know what ya mean. I had a 70 GMC with a 671 in it that I made into a triaxle dump truck. Drove it for 10 years. That thing would get 10mpg running empty at 20k pounds and 7 running loaded at 60k. First thing in the morning I would slam my finger in door an get good and pissed off then drive the dog crap out of it. That was a long time ago and I can still hear it screaming at me. LOL

LMAO in 1980 I quit a job making 979 bucks a week, which was pretty good money in those days because of listening to a buzzin dozen in a TS24.

I guess that depends on the setup, In the 70's all the crewcab 4x4s were short beds. There was never a long bed 4x4 crew available built until the 80,s. I had a shortbed 75 1/2 ton and I could be wrong but is seemed like the bed was close to 6 foot on it.
Apperantely this is the factory bed as I quess ford used 2 fuel doors on many of these crews even though they only had one tank.

They could be chevy but they might be the ones built by arrow. They are definately aftermarket as ford never built a factory dually in the 70's.

I've seen them a few times running around but truth be told that is such a rare event that maybe those where conversions of some sort too.

The ones I've seen have fenders that are smaller and comparable in size and shape to what you see on some of the older dodge trucks (12V cummins era).
