problem starting 97 5.4

I have an F-150, 5.4, 4x4, with 173000000 miles. The problem started the last couple of times I used the truck It would not restart after driving for a short distance and parking. It spins over but it is not firing. It acts like it is not getting gas. I replaced the fuel pump about 200 miles ago. I sprayed starting fluid into the air intake and it fired and almost started. I had it out this morning and shut it off and restarted a couple of times with no problem. I came home and the check engine light came on. I put the code reader on and it read no codes. All systems passed. I have no killed the battery trying to start it.

Does anyone have any ideas to help this stressed out Harley rider?

Check the Idle Air Control valve (IAC) mounted on the throttle body.
It may help to clean it with some throttle body cleaner, but it may be better to replace it. It is attached with two small bolts & a gasket.

A quick test to confirm the IAC as the problem is to depress the gas slightly the next time you have trouble getting her going. If it starts with the gas pedal pressed a little, the IAC is bad.

Thanks, I'll try that the next time. I replaced the battery and it started right up. It was probably the problem. I had read this in another post.
