Tansmission Range Sensor Switch location

I am having the same problem with my 4wd, 1997 Ford F150 and came across this posting but can't locate the Transmission Range Sensor Switch on the transfer case. Looking at the transfer case from the bottom and just don't see it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

New problem...not adressed here. (Read whole sticky and great info though!) ...when I put in 4hi and/or low... I get a growl/hum, so I speed up some and it louder..when I left off the gas I hear clicking...almost like a card in the bicycle spokes only metal, if that makers any kind of sense. Please help!
So far I've diagnosed it back to clunk/clang at the u-joint/yoke of the tranny side of 4x4 deiveshaft. (That's 4wd engaged, and moving front wheel back and forth)
I noticed in that guys ADVERTISEMENT esof motor or something... that pic is right where im hearing it.
Also, when listening, if I switched 4wd on and off. It is clicking right thee like it is working.

My guesses are that electronic motor/ or u-joints on 4wd d/s?? ....would love some thoughts please

I notice you posted 1997 to 2003.
I have a 2001 F150 Lariet 2 wheel drive and want to convert it to 4X4 with parts from another vehicle. What span of years are identical to the 2001?

So here's my problem. I haven't used 4x4 in over a year because the vacuum actuator was bad. During this time I could engage the transfer case, and the 4x4 light would still come one.

About 3 months ago, I noticed that when engaging 4 wheel drive, the 4x4 light did not come on. Didn't think anything of it, because my vacuum actuator was bad and couldn't use 4x4 any ways.

I ordered a new vacuum actuator and installed it about a month ago. During the install, I noticed that I have a constant vacuum on both the engage and disengage line. Engaging the transfer case does not change the vacuums, and the 4x4 light still does not come on.

I had my roommate touch the vacuum solenoids as I engaged the transfer case. He said that he couldn't feel anything click on either solenoid as I engaged or disengaged the transfer case.

What are y'alls first thoughts? Solenoids, transfer case switch,.....

I can rule out the vacuum lines, vacuum actuator, and fuse 23 as being the problem. Do you think it's more likely to be a solenoid problem or the switch in the transfer case?
