1973 Heater Core Question
#18
Fellro, I think it's original; but not sure. I did take a bucket, transfer pump and flushed out the core with 5 gallons of fresh water. At first, there was a tad bit of brown gunk, but then it cleared up and was good.
Moose, I checked the blend door and it appears as if it's hooked up and in good order.
I'm going to take her out tomorrow morning and see how she does. I still like the bore-scope idea and will see if a friend of mine will lend me his for a look-see.

Ok gentlemen, I want to thank you for all your input!
I got my truck fixed yesterday. Turns out I have the "high output" core in my truck already, which is very nice.
Also turns out that I thought that my airflow was normal or strong, but it really wasn't. The core itself was about 50% blocked with an unknown substance. I couldn't wash it out and I couldn't use compressed air to get it out.
Whatever is in between the fins of the core I can't see and therefore can't be identified. All I know is that when I took the old one out and looked through it with the sun behind it, I could only see partial sunlight.
The new one was perfect; you could see all the fins diagonally, etc...
Now, she roased me out and I have awesome airflow.
On a side note, my A/C evap was freezing last year, leading me to believe that there wasn't enough airflow, but as I said, I thought it was real good. I thought it was because of being R134a instead of R12, but I'm definately convinced that it was airflow.
Thanks again guys!
