carpet color change?

I got an Entire interior from an xlt lariet that is in mint condition. My only problem is my truck had a blue interior and the one i got is red. I painted all the metal and plastic trim but still need to do the floor carpet. I tried that duplicolor vinyl and carpet paint but doesn't work well at all. Anyone know what i could use??

I am trying to do the entire interior on a budget. I paid almost nothing for the carpet and it is in great shape so I would like to use it. I have painted carpet before with success but have never had success when going from one color to another. So my question remains.

I think you're going to have a hard time going to blue. Maybe if you would be fine with a black floor to go with the rest of your blue interior, that might work. I don't know if it's possible, but i would think you'd need to somehow strip the existing color before you could get the blue to take without turning into a dark, purplish mess.

You really need carpet that is the same color. The painting and dyeing etc is not going to work well on it.

blue seat, dash and door panels with red carpet, yeah I think I'm gonna try it! I'm not color blind and it would drive me nuts otherwise.

several light coats with the duplicolor vinyle and fabric paint.... vacuum it between coatsso it doesnt clump up in places..... maybe use some sort of brush too when vacuuming it....

i dont know if that will give u the desired results but i do know that heavy coats will cause it too look like butt and would prolly come off

no offense to anybody but i didn't start this thread looking for color opinions. I started it to see if anybody else had any ideas on color changing methods.

I wouldn't use the carpet paint. I've tried it before to try an cover stains. It makes the carpet hard and crunchy. It doesn't look that great. I am curious about the dye idea. Let us know how it goes. I would try and dye it white first. You might end up making your carpet an inconsistent grayish and black color. I would somehow try to strip the coloring that is in it now out first before you dye it the color you want.

lol u cant get a strait answer on here without people going on with something that is irrelivant or "what u should do" what i posted may work... duplicolor makes it in white too so if ur really concerned with it comeing out purple u could lighten it a little then go with the shade that u want...

lol 85% of the time if u have customizing ideas some people here are going to tell u to leave it stock... but some of them are alot of help

im not saying any names but the nay sayers know who im talkin to lol

well the carpet dye didn't work. I couldn't get the color to penetrate deep enough to bring the true color out.(I tried everything from using a sponge to a bristle brush) If I wasn't going from red to black or any other extreme change it would've worked great. Had i been able to soak the whole thing in the dye it probably would've done it.
I'm sure alot of you are wondering why bother. Well there are two reasons. First the xlt lariet trucks had 70% more sound deadening material. Hense a much, much quieter ride.(payed $10.00 for the carpet)And second you never know till you try. Had it worked the way I had hoped I would've had a new black carpet for about $10.00 thats how much it cost to buy everything you needed. So now I have a complete lariet interior all black with a blue seat and dash. Figure I save up and buy a new one one of these days.
