Front Hub 4 Stud Torque Spec?

The new replacement hubs for my 04 F-250SD require 4 new (or reused) studs to be installed on the backside of the hub/wheel bearing.

Question: When installing the four studs, is the correct method to double-nut fasten the studs until seated (to no defined torque)?

I understand there is a controlled torque on the 4 nuts once the hub is installed into the knuckle .

Thanks very much for any help!

The studs just thread into the hub, there isn't a torque value listed for them in the manual. The nuts are torqued to 133 Ft Lbs, and you just reuse the nuts.

Thanks! That appears to be the consensus. Does the Ford shop manual call for any LocTite on the studs (hub side)? I have no intent of using LocTite unless the Ford shop manual says to do so.

Thanks again.

No, the shop manual does not call for any thread sealant.

I just threaded the studs into the hub finger tight, installed the hub on the knuckle and torqued the nuts.

I have a '99 Ford shop manual and for F250/350 it states the hub bearing to knuckle torque spec is 55 lb/ft. I thought that was too loose but that is what the book states.

Thats quite the conflict if they are both Ford manuals. I wonder if one is a misprint.

I didn't look at other years on my shop manual CD but for 2003 it is definitely 133 ft-lbs. I replaced quite a few during my time and that's the torque I used.

I torqued mine to the 133 ft/lbs. I have a '99 manuals purchased from Helm but my book does say 55 ft/lbs.

Hub assembly hard to turn after torque

After torquing the four bolts, should the hub assembly be hard to turn? If it is what could be the problem?

BTW, turns freely with no noise before tightening.

Thanks in advance!

It should not be hard to turn but you'll feel some resistance.

It won't spin freely but shouldn't bind or be overly difficult to roll it by hand.

I just installed a new spicer axle shaft, put it all back together and the bearing is sticking pretty good. The bearing didn’t seem to have any issues when taken off.
