got some Petro-Canada Duron 0w40 full synthetic oil for a song. CAn I use it in my 2005 Explorer 4.0L SOHC? I am currently usinmg 0w30 synth. at $15.00/L (amsoil),and ford filters of course. My local Ford dealer told me 0w30 is ok for these engines, but i don't know about the 0w40. Petro-Canada makes good oil, the company i work for uses it in all our trucks.

 

It should be alright to use as long as you have a good long warm up before putting a load on the engine or if you hold it til summer. I would try and trade it for the correct weight if I could.
The modular engines are pretty particular about the oil used in them from all I've read and seen.

 

Why would you want a 40w, it doesn't protect better. It just takes more effort to make it flow. Stick with what you are using.

 

in canada, i would think you would be more in the 0 w 20 range, not 30 or 40.

 

ya, you're right, too expensive to blow up to save a few bucks on some oil. I'll stick with 0w30. Manual says 5w30, the 0 is easier for the winter on cold starts.It's regularly -20 to -30C up here in winter Brrr!
