Mercury M100 versus F100
Can anyone give me a short lesson in the Mercury trucks please? I saw an M100 on Craigslist the other day. When I contacted the owner he said he'd already had it hauled off to the wrecking yard That got me wondering about them; what are the differences, what is the same, how many were produced, can they be brought into the states without too much hassle? Thank you.

Maybe NumberDumby will chime in on the diferences, I do know that the badges and tailgate are different (stamped Mercury not Ford) but I do know that they were only available to the Canadian market much the way it is today Mercury is not available in Canada but is sold in the U.S.
Body appearance looks the same grill may be different though. Seat interior may have been different as well.

No differences in the trucks, Canada got all concerned that the US was building vehicles in the US and selling in Canada that they weren't collecting taxes on, so to resolve that issue, Ford built and sold Mercury M series trucks in Canada and the Ford F series in the US.
The badging & VINs are different, but basically beyond cosmetic differences they are identical. TBoMK

Call that fellow back, find out what junkyard hauled it away.
Mercury tailgates are VERY hard to find and worth big bucks, dented, rusty or whatever!
The grilles are the same as US trucks, the upper grille panel (1965/66) has the letters M E R C U R Y on it instead of F O R D.
Get these letters, too....they are also...almost impossible to find.
More unique goodies worth $$$: The horn ring (or horn button) and the emblems are Mercury only, as are the hubcaps.
Mercury trucks were only sold new in Canada. All were assembled at the Oakville, Ontario Assembly Plant.
Thru 1965, the VIN's and Warranty Plates are unique to Canada. 1966/68: Both are the same as US trucks.
Sample 1965 Canadian VIN: 4991014L-195001A
4 = V8 / 99 = Styleside Pickup / 10 = 100 Series / 14 = 114.8" wheelbase / L = Left Hand Drive / 195001 = first 1965 assembled at Oakville, Ontario / A = 0-6,001 GVW range.

As it turns out the guy apparently knew what he had. He says he he stripped the truck of all its Mercury specific parts. He has a couple tailgates to sell. Any idea what they might command for a price? He's asked that I make-an-offer. I don't really need one, but I do like getting my grubby hands on unique parts. Resale might help me finance something I need for my trucks.
Assuming the Canadian warranty plates are on the driver's door like a U.S. Ford, is that door of any value to Mercury lovers?

NEVER ever make an offer on parts (or vehicles, firearms, antique's and etc) until you know someone's asking price!
Whatever you offer...will prolly not be enough. It will also give those that are clueless, a starting point.
I tell ppl that say make an offer "I do not price other ppl's merchandise."
Find out what the seller is asking FIRST, then go from there.
The door isn't worth much, it's the same for all 1961/66 Ford/Mercury trucks, except Uni's.
The actual Warranty Plate, if 1961/65 might be something to latch onto.
1966/68 Merc's use the same Warranty Plate (and the same VIN sequence) as US trucks.
The Mercury tailgate might bring a grand or more on ebay (if it's primo), but with the state of the economy today, who knows?
Say...Dave, where in the world has that lobster tail been, in the Salton Sea? It's awful rusty, considering where it's located on the truck.

New Mercury trucks were not available in the US.
But, while Ford trucks were assembled in Canada, this does not mean they were only sold in Canada. Quite the contrary.
Most 1965/72 and all 1973/79 Crew Cab's were assembled in Canada.
I decoded two VIN's yesterday for two 1972 F100's. Both were assembled in Canada, both were ordered from the St. Louis MO Ford District Sales Office.
Besides St. Louis, I've decoded F100/350 VIN's that were ordered from Atlanta & Pittsburgh, the trucks were assembled in Canada.
Most Ford trucks assembled in Canada were sold in the US of A.
