1978 F250 Crew Cab Purchase?
I'd like some opinions on this one...it's a F250 Crew Cab, 2WD auto...460 engine and a topper. It's and Oklahoma truck that's now in the Texas panhandle. The owner has had it for about a year; when he bought it, there was no rad or carb (so he put those on.) It also had a couple of freeze plugs popped out--he says he has started it, ran it for a about a minute.
A bit of rust over the rear right door drip rail. To the point that there's a small hole even. Front driver's floor has a small hole through due to rust, so while the whole thing isn't bad it should be replaced. Frame looks a bit rusty but not horrible. Body and floor overall don't have that much rust. Looks like the cab mounts are OK but for some folks they might not like the looks and want to replace.
The guy wants about $800 for it. What do you think? It's not running and I'd need to trailer it an hour back to my place. I'm not particularly inclined to do lots of work on it, and this thing definately needs it...so I guess I'm a) asking if it's such a smoking deal that nobody should pass it up and b) maybe someone else is really interested in it that I could pass them along to directly to the seller.

That rust is nothing for a crewcab. Most of them rot in the drip rail much worse than that. It is well worth 800 bucks. It is a shame the guy screwed thru the rear door panel. I sold a set of cream rear door panels for 400 bucks on ebay last year.
This headliner trim piece would probably sell for 100 bucks on ebay.
The upper and lower rear door trim and the upper and lower trim molding on the center pillar would probably fetch another 200 bucks.

Ranger 429: Yes, I figured there were some parts that are valuable, but my only concern is that I could fetch about what I pay for it and I'm not really into spending the time to part some of the items out. But I get your point that there's "value" there in the parts vs. asking price.

Isn't that GVW really low? I have a standard cab F250 4x4 and its 8400, I was just thinking that a long wheel base 2x4 would be higher not lower. Not to mention that truck probably weighs a lot more than mine. I would buy it for $800 especially after hearing what that crew cab stuff goes for on epay.
