1977 F250 W/460 Ignition question.

I have the vehicle discribed above and it has a hot start problem. Not vapor lock as originally thought. Starter spins the engine fast. Once the truck starts it runs great; no misses, backfire or afterfire. The ignition module that was on truck has "blue" connector. I purchased a coil along with the new "blue" connector ignition module. The coil said that it is to be used with electronic ignition and an external resistor. The wiring harness slip on connector fits the coil correctly. Is this the correct combination for this vehicle? As near as I can tell the wiring is original and seems to be in good condition. I can find no resistor but realize it could be a wire in the harness. Thanks in advance for any knowlegable help.

1977 F250 W/460 Ignition question.

Her's a few quick things to check for----Bad coil from the parts dealer----replceSlip on connector on coil---not fords best idea---try and get coil with bolt on connectors instead of slip on.Isolate coil from heat---excess heat causes windings to break down and causes coil not to work. move coil.check wires --coil wires--might be bad..Ignition Switch---Might be worn and contacts might not be giving fulll voltage to module/coil.Bad ditiributor wiring---might have bad/intermittent contact on wires that go into distributor.(this one drove me nuts on a enconoline)Hope it helps.....
