I'm wanting to upgrade the sound system in my crewcab and would like to find out what others have done and maybe how they'd do anything different. I'd like to add speakers in the rear but don't want to have them below the back seat. I have the XL package so the inside door skins don't have the speaker grilles. Do the rear doors have speaker openings in the frame for the XLT and King Ranch packages? Are the factory speakers standard 6X9's or are they an odd size? Any tips would be helpful.

 

If I remember correctly the front and rear speakers are 6x8's and you can add subs behind your rear seat. I have upgraded to pioneer head unit and speakers front and back and 3-8" Kicker L7's in a home-made box with a 1200 watt amp pushing those. Sounds pretty good and clear.

 

I have a Pioneer head as well, RF 6x9's all the way around, RF 10" sub shallow mount, and Alpine PDX5 amp. I think it sounds

 

The stock speakers are not in the rear doors, they are in the pillar behind the door. Check for a speaker grille there. The stock speakers are 6x8.

 

I thought the stockers were 5x7s, but 6x8s would fit. I'm about to start working on mine as well, and my plans for the sub is to replace the middle seat (I have the 40/20/40 front seat) with a box so I can mount my arm rest on it in the stock position. Mike (Tenn350PSD) did that on his -- looks nice!

 

Ive got a panasonic in dash DVD with navigation and a bunch of other stuff that I don't need, but i got it for a good deal. As far as speakers go, I have Kenwoods all the way around and a 12" Kicker L7 Solo-Baric powered by a Kicker ZX1000 amp behind the back seat. Its plenty loud enough for me. I hardly ever turn it up as loud as it will go.

 

who needs a stereo with that kool a$$ diesel rumble...drone...lol...i just have a JVC head unit and 6x8's in all locations...i do want to add a small sub for some bass, those 6x8's are basically flat sounding...

 

I also have a JVC head unit with Infinity 6x8's up front and Kicker 6x8's in the rear. I also have an Infinity Basslink 10" sub. Sounds good. I have a couple of Alpine amps I need to install to power the 6x8's.......one of these days...........

 

I had to replace my stock system early on (about 4 years ago). The rear speakers are located in the pillar behind the rear seats. I am running JL Audio component speakers with crossovers in the pillar and front doors. I opted for twin JL Audio 10" sub enclosures that fit behind the seat very nicely. I have a Kenwood headunit with a JL Audio 150W per channel Mono for the subs and an Infiniti Reference Series amp for the components.

Amazingly, the amps, crossovers and wiring fit under the rear seat very nicely mounted on a peice of MDF. The only clue I have a kicka$$ system is the Kenwood head unit and tweeters on the door. Otherwise very stealth.

Oh yeah copius amounts of Dynamat in the door and behind the speakers keeps the sound nice and tight.

 

I am invisioning(All I can afford) what I could do to my stock system. The factory put in 6x8s, but is it pretty easy to stick a 6x9 in?

Is the head unit a double din size?

No, but you can fit a double din head unit with minor trimming of the radio opening.

 

I didn't think they would fit exact, but I have put some 6x9s in places of 6x8s with very little trimming. I was hoing that someone else had tried it and knew how much trimming was required. I did look at Crutchfield but they just say that factory speakers are 6x8. Thanks

Alpine head unit here with Alpine 6x8s, two 100w Infinity 10" powered subs and a 1600watt, four channel, Power Acoustik amp under the back seat.

It sounds SWEEEEET.
