Does my Expedition have Limited Slip?

First post here... I read back a ways in the postings and didn't see info that would help. I just changed the rear diff. oil in my '00 Expedition and it looked like it has an open diff. (the axle code o the doorjamb is H9, that's a 3.55 LS, right?). Anyway, no clutch pack like my SD has, am I missing something here? Thanks in advance for any info!

If the tag is still on the axle, it should say one of two things concerning the ratio: 3.55 or 3L 55. If it has the "L" it is limited. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info on the tag, and yes it says 3L55, but that is the same as I'm asking about the door sticker (they both agree) -- I'm past that am now looking inside the pumpkin. I don't see a clutch pack, so what am I looking for? Is this a torque sensing ltd slip of some known brand? If so, it's quite small or it's not there (I don't care what the factory *thinks* they put in)....

Thanks...

You won't be able to see the clutch plates, but, you should be able to see some square shaped slots in the carrier. In those slots, there should be some tabs or tangs. Those are on the friction plates. The side gears that the axles slide into sit on top of the clutch packs. I hope this helps. I just rebuilt one in an F150. the rebuild kit came with all the plates, shims, and friction modifier. It only cost $80 for the kit at the ford dealer. Good luck.

Sorry, it's taken me a while to log back in. So if I'm looking at the diff from the back with the cover removed, the carrier is on the left side (drivers)?, 'cause my super duty has the clutch pack on the right side of the pinion gear. If that's the case I didn't look inside on the left and the clutch pack would have to be about 1" thick (it's all sealed up with $30 of redline synth, so it'll be a while b4 I look in there again).... Thanks for your help.
