57-60 guys/gals, I need a favor.

I just ran into the guy that does some HVAC work here at the plant. I asked him if he ever had any sheet metal scraps that i could get to patch the floors in my truck. He said, "Sure, draw up what you need, and I'll have it delivered tomorrow." Awesome!!! So, here's my issue. My truck is in the next town over right now, and I have school tonight, so I won't be able to get out there to measure the floors. Could one of you go out and measure the floor, roughly, from door to door, and back to the kick up to the firewall? My floors are pretty much shot, so I will need to replace it all. Thanks a ton, John

John,
I got my cab up on the lift. I'll measure it tonight for you and get back with some dimensions.

I'd ask him for certain what kind of metal he has to work with. Most HVAC work is done with galvanized. It's better as far as rust resistance is concerned, but it's difficult to get paint to stick to it and welding it can be an issue as well. The fumes can make you sick. You're better off with regular mild steel.

Nick, thanks a ton. BlueOval, I'm aware of that, but thanks for your concern.

I measure 63" from door to door and assuming I understood you correctly ~33" from the firewall to the front of the bench seat or 13" from the firewall to the bend in the floor if you just wanted that..Also I assumed you wanted door to door not just step to step but if so that measure is 53".

[ 63" ]
[ ]
---------------------------- the "kickdown" I think your referring to, that is the 13" measurement to the firewall
[63" ]
[ 53" ] this is the measurement from running board to running board

* Sorry it didn't like my drawing with open spaces so hopefully you still understand what I was trying to create.

I got a '59 and just from memory now (which is spotty at times,) I believe it's about 65" across from where the rear pillar of each door meet the floor, and 45" from the front floor seam where it transitions into the firewall to the back of the hump where the gas tank sits. Just ballpark figures, I can measure more accurate later, but hope it helps you right now.

Black58,, Go to LMC LMC Truck Parts - Page 22
They have the measurements you are looking for. They are L & R side, They go from the firewall the edge of the seat. They have the cut out for the step and kick panel. I was going to post the picture, but couldn't get it to co-operate.

Yeah, 600 bucks (with shipping) is kinda up there. If I can get some sheet metal (hopefully not galvanized) and borrow my buddy's bead roller, I can do it for the cost of a spool of wire.

Guys,

Measuring from inside door panel to inside door panel, I got 64" rounding up slightly. Measuring from rear cab wall over the hump that the gas tank sits on, then on up to the front where the toe panel angles up I got 48" rounding up slightly.

Hope this helps as well,

Nick

Thanks everybody for the responses. I just talked to Jake, and it is galvanized. I told him I really appreciated it, but I kinda wanted mild steel. He asked why, I told him it was because of the whole welding fume issue. He said he welds galvanized all the time, and as long as I'm not in an enclosed area, and don't get right in the fumes I should be fine. So, I guess I'd still rather have mild steel, and I have one more avenue to explore, but for the price, you can't beat it.
