If there is a misfire in a coil it will be stored as a Pending Code if there has been enough misfires. Most scanners can read the Pending Codes but it's a seperate menu from normal Codes.

You will not get a CEL or any Code for a misfiring coil unless there is a complete failure of the coil. SD's are over 8500 GVWR and or not required to follow ODB II complience. See the link below.

COPs are those pesky little things with lights on the cars that never seem to leave me alone! lol
Seriously, the guys are right, it is Coil On Plug. It replaced the twin coil packs found on earlier model modular engines. Ford swapped out the packs to the COPs in 1999 on the Mustang, not 100% on the trucks. By the way, if the pack is going out, you might want to take a look at the boot. They are prone to failure causing the pack not to work properly. What may cost you $45 may actually be a replaceable $10 boot.
