2010 or wait for 2011?

I'm in the market for a new truck this summer as my '07 is coming off it's lease in May. I just don't know if I should just get a 2010 or wait to see if there are going to be new powertrains for 2011. There are some good programs on the 2010's now.

Hard to say. The new stuff may be great or may not. The existing power trains are proven. You have to decide if you want to be a test pilot.

True, but, given the wide variety of employment that the new engines will have, I'm going to assume that ford has done all the right things right.

I intend to wait for the new motors. I haven't had a new truck in over 2 decades and I want the latest thing on the road when that day comes for me.

The Modular motors are gone... new options will be a 6.2 V8, 5.0 V8, and a 3.5L EcoBoost V6 twin-turbo.

Thanks

And the 3.7L V-6 as the base F-150 engine and the base mustang engine. It's supposed to be a hoss for what I've read.

Ah, forgot about that one.. I can't take a naturally aspirated V6 seriously in a full-size truck...

Is there anything official from ford as to what engine will be available in what model?

If I could get a crewcab 4X4 with 6.5ft box and the 6.2l, I would probably wait for a 2011, but if the 6.2l is only going into the higher end trucks I would get a 2010. I tow a 28ft fifth wheel camper and would like more power but don't need a fancy truck to go to the lake.

The 5.0L V-8 will deliver more HP/TQ than the 5.4L with similar MPG's. I would expect this to be the most widely used engine in the F-150 fleet.

3.7L V-6 base engine
3.5L V-6 Ecoboost upscale engine
6.2L V-8 possible future upscale engine

If you plan on keeping the truck for years to come, I'd go with the 2010... the Mod motors may not be as powerful as the new ones, but they are proven to run for a long time. The new ones should prove to be great motors too, but they are not proven yet. Aslo, with the new powertrains, there is bound to be a price markup to cover the engineering costs. I got a 2010 FX4 and have been very happy with it. It has plenty of power (of course, more is better...) and I have had the 5.4 in the past and I know it will run forever.

I have been kinda of leaning toward a 2010, I have had a couple of 5.4l and they always have got the job done. My '07 pulls my 27' camper with no problem and it's stock.

If I want a little more power I could always add some extra's.

my '08 with the tuner and intake/exhaust seems to be a little lighter on its feet. just how much i don't know, but seat of the pants tells me that its more. i'd hold off and see what the 6.7 diesel turns out to be...

I would wait if you can, I like my 5.4, but gee it is slow to rev, that's what happens when you have little pistons with a long stroke. Hard to get the fuel and air in to make the pistons respond and pick up speed, but there is a lot of torque. I think the new engines will add great drivability, not just 100HP more at the top. I think the motors will be a lot more responsive - all of them. But I love how the EcoBoost drives, in the Flex it is savagely fast and responsive. The 6.2 with a big 4'' bore, and short stroke, with large valves and twin spark plugs, should also be very responsive. Ford has already unveiled the 6.2, 6.7 and EcoBoost, and the are out already being tested by some of Ford's clients, so should have all the bugs ironed out before the 2011 F150 and SuperDuty goes on sale. I would definitely wait, if waiting is an option.
