You have to email Ford, they'll send it out for free. Takes a while though.

There's the link, simply ask them for information on your vehicle in the inquiry section. A few days after emailing them, they actually called my phone to confirm my address! Talk about customer service . It took four weeks all told, I believe, for them to get the envelope in my mailbox. And as far as age limits go, I'm not sure; A lot of people down in the dentside forums have gotten them, too, though, so any truck in our year range should definitely be covered.

Well,my specs finally came in.I didn't think they could offer me much more info, but they did in fact provide me with a couple things I didn't know.

I don't have a scanner,so i'll type it out.

F10-1980 Ford F-100 Styleside Pickup 4x2
E-4.9L 300 CID 6-cylinder 1V Engine
R-Manufactured at our San Jose,California Assembly Plant
HD0580-Consecutive Unit number(Wish it had told me what the HD stood for)

This vehicle was produced 12/20/1979 with the following options:

-Custom Trim Series
-133" Wheelbase
-Bright Chrome Grille
-Ammeter and Oil Pressure Gauges
-California Emissions System()
-Automatic Transmission(not sure why they couldn't list the exact model)
-2.75 Rear Axle Ratio 3750# Ford
-P205/75 x 15 SL BSW Tires
-Power Steering
-Cigar Lighter
-Extra Cooling Radiator(this I was not aware of,definitely glad I found this out)
-Full Wheel Covers
-Chrome Rear Step Bumper
-Dark Caramel Exterior Paint Color with Pastel Sand Accent
-Folding Back Seat
-Knit and Vinyl Bench Seat
-Caramel Interior Trim Color
-Exterior Reducing Sound Package(What in the world is this?)
-Optional Fuel Tank with Standard Fuel Tank

I knew most of everything they provided, except the exact day the truck was built, the Extra Cooling option, and the Exterior Sound Package.

Pretty interesting information, and even though the truck no longer has some of these options(Different Wheels and Tires,Different Color Interior),it'll still be cool to display this at car shows should I decide to show the truck.

I dunno what the HD stands for either. I have HD5440 (also an 80, but F150) as the last 6 in my VIN.
I always assumed the HD was just fillers, due to being an early production model. Although mine was built in Louisville, Ky.

I always assumed it meant Heavy Duty because of the over-sized brakes on my F100(I've got F150 brakes on it as a factory option),but since your F150 has it too,i'm just not sure now.I've asked about it before, but nobody knows.Usually in the unit number they start with A,then when they hit 99,999 they go to B,But being built in December of 79,I don't think there's any way they could have gotten to H,or D in that short a time (July-December).It's just something i've always wondered, but will probably never find out.

If memory serves me right, the 1980 model was actually late to begin production, since nearly the entire assembly line had to be completely retooled.
Also, the unit number is designed for 6 digits, not just 5. The first digit could have been a letter though.
I can't remember the production date on mine, but it's around dec 79 or jan 80. I'll look at it and get back to you.

I've always heard production started in Fall 79.

And yea, you're right,it should be just numbers on 80 trucks.I'm used to my letters.lol.In 81 they started the A99,999 Unit numbers.

I looked again at the door label, and it states a build date of 01/80.

Maybe we've both got early production trucks?
I know mine has an identity crisis, being a Ranger F150 Explorer......
