From personal experience, both Holley style and Carter style carbs work good on the 351M with an Offenhauser intake, it is easier to tune the Carter type for optimum performance. And if you can find one, the Offenhauser Dual Port 360 manifold works very well with the stock heads on a 351M. Great low end performance with a good top end when you want it.

Just FYI, Edelbrock Carbs are duplicates of the Carters. I have one and love it.

I have never seen a 351C marked head on a 351/400 block - all heads were marked for the 351/400.

Yes, they were all the same heads on both the Clevelands and Modified/Michigans. So no need to distinguish.

Ford 351 Cleveland
The 351 Clevelands and 351/400M engines have large, square heads with splayed valves and eight cover bolts. Cleveland heads are marked with a large numeral 2 or 4 in the upper corner of each head, signifying either a two- or four-barrel application. Produced only with two-barrel carbs, 351M/400 engines either have an "M" on each corner or no mark at all. The only way to tell a 351M from a 400 is by measuring the stroke. The 351M stroke is 3.50 inches; the 400M stroke is 4.00 inches.

FYI, I know mine have the "M" in the top-front corner of each head which bares out what you have said, Dick
