Lightbulb You want cold air?

I just put an intake on my IDI that I think could benefit the gas trucks as well, or even give someone an idea to fab up there own. The kit I got is made by Hypermax, it's a cowl induction kit. You cut a rectangular hole in your firewall above the brake booster and it lets you pull in cool air from the high pressure cowl area. I have noticed a drop in exhaust temperature of 150*, which means cooler air is coming in. Just thought I would share this with you guys since it seems to be working pretty well.

That looks like a cool setup to me. I like it. Where is the air filter though, inside the housing that has the TURBO on it?

i like!! too bad it don't have an air filter on it, cause the new airbox i made a few years ago does not have a provision for an air filter.

I've always liked what the Aussies do, given the numerous water crossings on their trails:

Or you could go with a ram air hood and run tubes off the holes in the hood

not 100% sure, but the orange 'stripe' certainly looks like an air filter ..

Yeah, the filter is in the turbo box.

The firewall attachment is a few inches above the bottom of the cowl, so there would need to be a lot of rain. The cowl also has drains and the airbox has a drain as well so I'm not worried about the rain.

Any idea what that tube diameter is? I wonder if that could be used on the regular air boxes

Only way it wouldn't work is if the tube diameter is different in a gasser, other than that, I don't see why it wouldn't.

The tube diameter is 4", most parts stores around here have a bunch of different sized hose couplers for the ricers, so something could be easily put together. I see no reason why this couldn't work on gas motors. It's just a different kind of cold air kit.
