I am going to change the front springs on my 01, F350, 4X4. I can get the X codes from Ford cheaper than aftermarket stuff.
They need new bushings and have about 300k on them. I think this will level the front where I want it and fix the sag.
My question is...is there anything I need to do other than just swap them out. I will be changing u-bolts as well. Track bar? Drag link?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

 

When you do your x code swap could you post a measurement from the top of the axle to the bottom of the frame? In the future I may want to go down to x codes (depending on there height) from my 4" lift that came with my truck. Thanks

 

I' ll do that. From what I gather from other posts, I should gain about an inch and a half from my stock springs.
We shall see.

Are you refering to any other maintenance needin' done? No. Swapping the springs should be all you need. A front end alignment might be in order though.

I figured an alignment would be in order. I always align when I put new rubber on anyway and it looks close enough for me. New springs new tires. Good start.

Throwdown, how much space is between the bottom of your frame to the top of the axle tube with your stock setup? Mine is 13" and I'm not sure but it may be a 4" lift? Mine has a drop trackbar bracket but I believe you won't need one. You should be fine with the springs and mabe an alignment.

 

I can measure that for you tomorrow if you like, however, there is 375k worth of sag in the springs and it may not be quite what you wan to know.
I have had many lifted trucks and if you have a drop track bar mount, I would say it is at least 4" lift.
My original question was because I have never replaced a spring with a stock spring that has more arch. I was not sure if I would have to change anything like I would with a lift.
Anyway, I will let you know what it measures now and after I put the X codes in.

 

Hey throwdown, I'm trying to learn about the front end suspension(stock) on my 2003 F350SC/LB, I'm hearing these codes thrown around and wondering what are they? I posted a question on here a few days ago about front suspension and someone asked me "what code springs are" I hear you saying X code. Can you tell me what it means? Newbie here tryin to figure somethings out. I'd really appreciate it.

Southside of Chicago? Didn't think there was anyone in this area I'm just a bit more west. The codes are the letter of the front or rear springs that tells you the weight rating. Look at your door sticker it will have 2 letters one for front and one for rear. I believe the x is a f450 truck fronts and also the snow/camper package on 250/350 trucks I believe. The truck sits about 1.5 inches higher with x codes.

 

Crewcab....I measured from the top of the spring to the bottom of the frame right above the axle tube. My truck has stock springs right now (saggy I'm sure). There is about six inches.
I will post the new measurement when I get the X-codes in.

Job1963...I think Crewcab answered the question as good as I could.
We will all know more when I get the X-codes in.
Then I can go to work on the back. I have had this truck since it was new and it has always seemed to be lower on the drivers rear. I have changed countless springs from breakage.
I think it's time for some Ride -Rite action.

Your fronts are V and rears are S on your sticker. Its under SPR .For an example mine is V for front and A for rear. Someone here has a listing they posted from the ford manual that details the codes and applications and weight ratings.
