51-52 grille

OK, I hate to keep posting questions that are already covered in other threads, but when you do a search and don't find anything what are you supposed to do?

We stripped down my grille today and found more Bondo than I would like, and I briefly toyed with the idea of going for a fiberglass grille. But the decision was made for me because there are none available. Oh well, I guess it's time to get the hammer out.

I'm a little surprised that there aren't any sources for 51-52 grilles... not even fiberglass. Anyone know why this is? You can get 48-50 and 53-56.

Well, welcome to the world of 51s and 52s. They were kind of a transition year and there were a lot of unique things on them. You'll find this to be true with A LOT of 51/52 parts.

Unless you want to chrome it, the bondo won't hurt anything if it was put on correctly.

You can also check e-bay. There have been a couple grilles and bullet sets on lately.

Or, write to Ilya - (51 PanelMan) and ask him if he sold the grille off the 52 we split last month. It looked to be in very good condition.

As far as the search is concerned, next time use the "Advanced Search" and put your subject in quotation marks. That seems to help.

Here's one you might want to page through:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/9...me-grille.html

It's th eonly one I could find as well.

Alot of people having serious problems with Johns lately. There are a number of threads about parts not showing up, long shipping times (months) and them not returning calls or e-mails.

Here's one of the links.

If Johns can get them other folks must have them too.

DV - I also have a complete grille from a 52 in my barn loft. I haven't looked at it closely in years but believe it was in good condition when I stored it. Not sure what part of the country you reside in but I am in Minnesota. If that is any closer than the grilles the gentleman in California has available maybe I can help you out as well.

Wink

Obviously you know Ilya well Julie! :^) I've read numerous posts by 51PanelMan. You and he certainly have earned the respect of this forum and hold court here. I'll learn much and be less formal once we "shoot the breeze" a few times.

Ilyas a great guy. He's a parts gypsy for sure.

Sigh, there's a family association best left burried, but in my experiences, Ilyas cool - a character, but cool - a good man!

I enjoy helping and hope the info I offer -much much much of which is based on my mistakes in my restoration, will help others avoid those mistakes.

There are alot of VERY good people at FTE. We may not always agree or get along, but they are all good people!
