got my eyes on a block for my motor build
well i think i found a block for my motor build its a 74 block out of a cougar. 351W Windsor small block with crank i was just on the phone for 10 minutes with the guy and the motor when pulled had a slight knock but when he disassembled it the connecting rod had started to come loose but no damage. he said the crank turns fine. i asked him bout how the cylinder walls look he said no scoring really but at the top of each cylinder wall there was a little ridge. idk if thats normal or not but he said i could probably get away with just having the block honed. gotta sell that dam downpipe so i have 0 dollars in this block. would be a great start.
so what do yall guys think? should i jump on the deal?

Chris I'm asking cause I don't know, will pre-fuel injected heads match up to your intake? The ports on the heads to the runners on the intake is what I'm talking about. Accessories mounting can be a challenge also. Just trying to think ahead based on my own experiences from the past.

I'd love to fab up a fuel injection setup to a Cleveland, talk about a screamer, just be certain to put in the added oil line to the front of the block at the pump to the top rear at the pressure sensor to avoid main starvation at high rev.
A 302 is a great car engine, I want more in a truck, a 351 Windsor is nice, but a Cleveland is better, and a 400, well a built one of those is to just go nutz, forget 460, the 400 is lighter.

I did one, a 351M on an engine stand, there is a great machine shop here in the Boro with great prices, have them do the cam bearings, it'll be $50 bearings included, and they'll install the cam for you. I have to say Mikes Speed Shop is pricey, I had them turn my crank, got by with 0.10, I don't suggest more than that, if it's that bad look for another. You can take your time building one as long as you keep it coated in a film of oil to prevent rust, have the machine work done first, then buy your parts, to insure a fit, I did a mild build. Now knowing the costs involved, you can get a re-manufactured engine cheaper, due to the high cost of machine work.
