open your doors one at a time while the truck is running. the door that doesn't ding is the culprit. It's a back door sensor.

It is a sticky latch sensor on the passenger door. Spray it with WD40 and slam the door a few times and you should be good to go. Hit the others while you are at it, including the rear hatch and lift glass.

Sounds like one of the sensors for the door or rear hatch is stuck and wont turn off the sensor because it thinks the door/hatch is still open even though it is still closed. Check all the sensors and see if any of them change. Also check for dirty contacts that would also cause this problem. My guess would be on the rear hatch or the rear window.

Not based on the description of what happens (or doesn't happen) when he opens the passenger side door.

I just bought my 98 EB Expy last week and when I got it home I had the same problem with the door ajar, Interior, and runner board lights. Soaked all door latches with WD40 and open and closed a bunch of times and was good to go.

I am now using white lithium grease as the WD 40 seems to wear off quick.

interior lights

So with my 1998 expedition 4x4 my interior lights would not shut off. And I thought maybe it would just be best to pull the fuse but I didn't know which one to pull. Therefore I am driving home in the dark with my interior lights on. And I start to mess with the dim lights switch just to see if it would shut off and it does! So just mess with the dim lights switch to turn them off. I know it can be a struggle. It was like that for weeks with mine on

Exclamation Quick fix!

After almost two years, I searched through this forum and found out that the solution to my waking-up-in-the-middle-of-the-night for the alarm going off due to the doors not locking up on my '99 Expedition was just sitting at my garage at all times. Spraying WD-40 on my door latches did the trick and the doors lock now immediately, ajar light goes off right away and interior dome lights shut off right after closing the doors! Thank you guys for such a quick and easy solution!
