Cruise control - High Idle set?
Hi group! it's been a long time since i've been on this forum. I sold my 94 F350 a few months back but i had been having "withdrawals" from not having an IDI !! I purchased a 86 F-350 DRW that is mint. it has the Cruise Control option on the steering wheel and I was wondering if there was a modification to engage the cruise control in park (for a high idle set - like in some of the newer trucks)
any ideas?

The newer International dumps I use for plowing have this function built in. You are able to adjust through the cruise controls to whatever desired RPM (I'm sure there is a limit but I usually only bring it up to 1100rpm for warm ups)
Star your tow probably is just an high idle bump solinoid. When it's energized it yanks a little ball chain that pulls the throttle lever, with no adjustability from inside the cab. Sound right.

Close it is actually just like the idi it pushes the throttle linkage. you could move it but if you move it much the throttle wouldn't close. The fast idle solenoid on our rigs will probably handle 1000 rpms which would be good for very cold weather.
The cruise on my trucks can be set at any rpm.

My uncle was in the army 15 year ago, they had these old 6 wheel drive trucks where you had to depress the gas pedal and pull out a **** to set the high idle. The high idle would set to whatever RPM you wanted by how far you depress the gas pedal.
On the highway, gas in the floor, top speed of 55MPH they pulled out the **** with the pedal in the floor and used it as a cruise control.

Those should have basically been hand throttle cables.
Lots of the old trucks had those.
The newer trucks send signals to the computer, which is controlling the injectors anyway.
You can adjust the high idle solenoid out to increase the RPM, then turn the high idle on and off with a switch, but where ever you set the RPM is where it will be every time you set it.
Turn the switch on, push the throttle to set it.
Turn the switch off to return to normal idle.
