Not so you can tell it. If there was one sold it had aftermarket decals on it, I don't believe it would have been sold by Ford.

Please tell us what you know as fact about the truck. I remember seeing enough of them around when they were new to know there was such a thing. My questions are "what is different?", or is it a decal truck? thanks, ray

The only difference between a pace truck package and the xlt or ranger package is aftermarket decal. I believe there is a Jack Roush model now available, but Roush builds on an existing Ford package.

The Pace truck would have the same.

I am a Mustang fan but I can tell you what I know about the factory 1979 Pace truck that went along with the 1979 Pace Car Mustang. The exterior stripe packages on each vehicle were similar. I believe it was a combination of red, orange, white and black stripes. The Mustangs were sold with the special Indy 500 decals in a box. I would assume the trucks were the same. I have seen one Pace Truck. It was a garden variety F150 long bed with a 302 and automatic trans. What made it different was the exterior stripes, aluminum wheels (15X7?) with round holes in a circle pattern and the door panels and bench seat with orange accents on them. I think the dash panel had red stripes in between the gauges as well.
I have a '79 truck brochure but there is no mention of the Pace truck in it. I am always looking for more info on this rare truck. If anyone knows where to find pictures of this truck I would like to see them. Todd S.

I was wrong about the colors on the stripe/decal package on these Pace Trucks. The color white was not used.
After searching high and low, I found 2 pictures at the following website page:
<a href="http://members.tripod.com/~poisonpinto/pacetruck.html">http://members.tripod.com/~poisonpinto/pacetruck.html</a>

One is a picture of 4 X 4 and the other is a magazine ad of the truck at Indy. Todd S.

im sorry john, after seeing the picture, i just dont see any reason why ford could not have produced these 79 pace trucks from their facility.

Frank Tooling up costs is why Ford did not do it.
The truck is Ford all the way, The wheels decals and any other was farmed out. No assembly line can afford to stop and apply that kind of thing to a small order. I saw the truck once or twice somewhere myself, don't remember. I doubt that there were more than a couple of hunderd at the most, (I think I'm being generous here) of those trucks built, and that doesnt allow cost of tool up recovery.

Make any better sense?

I woudl like to talk with others who have or are intersted in the 79 Ford F-150 Offical Pace Truck. My dream is to find one with Ultra low mile miles stil in new condition. LOL like that will ever happen. I have one and a 79 Mustang as a set. www.79indypacecar.com
Thanks
