oil change question?????

oil change question?????

I have a 2005 F150 with the 5.4L V8. I decided to change my oil for the first time on my own today. I usually get it changed at Jiffy Lube and their paperwork states that they fill it with 7 quarts of oil. After changing the oil filter and refilling with 7 quarts the dipstick shows the oil level over the recommended level. Any suggestions?

7qts is what the manual says to put in. Did you check the level before you ran it first or after? If you checked it before you first ran it the level will be slightly higher because the oil filter is dry. but after running it the filter will be full and the level should drop to the full mark. It also could be that the truck might not have been sitting level and it threw the reading off, or maybe the marks on the dipstick aren't in quite the right place. On my truck the dipstick shows the oil level slightly under full even with 7qts in, but thats where I leave it.

You know they fill your engine from a hose, right? Not quart bottles. You think the tech maybe held the trigger a little too long?

Edit: oops...misread that. Thought you said Jiffy Lube did the oil change.

+1 to what Fordman said above.

Seven quarts is correct according to both the owners manual and the factory service manual. I also have an '05 and when I put seven in, run it, let it sit a few minutes to drain down, it shows right on the full line. If you have put in seven and checked on level ground, it could be your dipstick or tube was improperly assembled of tweaked in some way ( I have a tractor that had that problem). If you see no obvious problems, remark the add and full lines for the level with seven quarts installed.
