BD Diesel Crank Case Vent Filter Kit

BD Diesel 7.3L/6.0L Crank Case Vent Filter Kit

Ive been looking into the CCV reroute / filter option and reading up on the threads for a while now and just discovered this option provided by BD. Has anyone had any experiance with this kit? Looks to be a nice option, save for the well-put-together homemade kits ive seen on here. Any thoughts?

I just ran a hose down by the back of the cab. I don't see any reason to spend that much on a filter when you can just vent it to the atmosphere.

$315???? Save yourself $300 and do like Cartmanea and I and alot of others did, vent to atmosphere. It will be less than $15 for all the supplies you need to end it back past the cab. Just my .02.

I did mine for $10.00.
I ran my vent tube in front (under) of the air box intake (Zoodad) so the stinky vapors get sucked into the air cleaner. I placed the tube far enough away so no oil residue gets in the filter element. There is a slight residue of oil on the radiator support, the car wash takes care of that. I get no oil on the drive way. I used to have a filter element on the end, when it gets oil soaked it causes back pressure in the crank case and the o-ring on the dip stick blows out causing a bad leak. I say forget the filter and deal with a little oil residue.
I have a motorhome (bus) with a CATIPILLAR 3126 C-7 and it vents straight down to the ground. I built mine with technology that the professionals do.

What about adapting the air breather housing so the hose goes diectly into it before the filter? Wouldn't that be better than letting it pickup dirt and dust from the road? Or, does it always vent out?

Yah, the flat head fords did that too and the air in the 60's and 70's you could cut with a knife. I'm not a tree hugger but obviously you have no kids that you care what they or their kids breathe.

Emissions from the CCV are nothing compared to what comes out the tailpipe.

Sorry, I'm just an electrical engineer, but a good friend of mine has a masters in chemical engineering specializing in internal combustion engine emissions. I'll ask her.

Well we are equal on the electrical end and that is why I don't make statements that I can't back up on the emissions end of it. Why do you think egr's and ccv's even came into existance? One day the diesel will evolve to the same state that the gassers are, but not yet unfortunately.

Diesel's already have too much emissions equipment, that has been their downfall in recent years. EPA makes such a big stink about diesels, when the fact is, gassers have more emissions, they just don't produce the soot so you rarely see it.

Have you hugged a tree today?

No offense, you and I have agreed on a lot of things in the past and probably more in the future but we are at an impasse on this one. I do hope you like beer!

Agree 100%
Here are my emission test results:

Opacity Allowed 20.00%
At 50 MPH 0.40%
At WOT 1.0%

The numbers were a lot higher with all the emission
crap installed and functioning.
Tree huggers go hug your PRIUS high bred.
