New to me sliding back window question

New to me sliding back window question
I will probably need to replace the rubber around this window. I have the solid back window now, but I believe that the slider takes a different weatherstrip. Suggestions on best place for the rubber? I also have the chrome around my rear window too. Do they even make a weatherstrip for the sliding back window that also takes the chrome strip? Thanks in advance...The window hasn't arrived yet and I want to be ready.
Also, does anyone have a nice step by step on removal of solid window and install of slider window? My dad used to do it with a spray lubricant, screwdriver and rope or a cord, but I can't remember. Any help and/or part numbers would be appreciated...ROB

Are you replacing the rear window with a Ford Factory Slider or is it aftermarket?
And if it's a factory slider, what year truck did the slider come out of?
Even though the sliders are interchangeable 1973-1996, there were two different types used. One for 1973-1981 and another for 1982-1996, and each one takes a different seal to fit properly.
If you don't have the info on the slider, try and post a picture of it, and one of us may be able to tell you the info you seek that way.

here is a link to an article on installing a windshield. same concept.

I find the rear windows easier to install than the front.

I am sorry for leaving some of the information needed out. I thought I was typing well, but it was a little late. It is off a 1973 Ford truck and the owner says oem for Ford. It looks like Ford and fills up the entire window opening. I am in Southern California. I will try to post a picture of my current back window and the new slider. Thanks for the info on the installation. Seems kinda 50-50 on the DIY. Thanks, Robert

The factory slider that was installed 1973-1981 uses this seal.
The Seal you need is #: D3TZ-1042084-A : For Solid Glass 1973-1979, and Factory sliders 1973-1981. No moulding.
"Chrome moulding" was not used with the sliders until 1982.
The seal your truck currently has if original: 1973-1977: D3TZ-1042084-C : Solid rear window : used with wide moulding before serial #080000 (This will need to be swapped out with the seal above)

Additional info for completion sake:
The seal for 1977-1979 from serial #080000 : D7TZ-1042084-A : For Solid Rear window with narrow plastic moulding: D7TZ-1042430-A

The solid window from 1980-1996 will also fit, but the glass is thinner and requires the updated seal to fit properly. This is important because the 1980-1996 glass and seal is used as a service part for all 1973-1996.
Seal #: E0TZ-1042084-A : Solid glass without moulding
Seal #: E0TZ-1042084-B : Solid glass With Moulding: D7TZ-1042430-A
Seal #: D3TZ-1042084-A : Factory Slider: 1973-1981
Seal #: E2TZ-1042084-A : Factory Slider: 1982-1996: Requires moulding: D7TZ-1042430-A

So you see why it's important to get the apropriate seal for the year of window you are installing. It's all interchangeable, 1973-1996 if the year of the window and year of the seal matches.

I did my rear window a few months back, and it was a BEAR to do! I tried six or eight times by myself, and I realized it was a two man job. I got my seal from LMC, and I believe it was a $39 seal. Not the cheapest, but not the OEM seal eaither.
I had a friend help me who has is own garage/towing business and who has done several over the years, and he said if I ever need to do it again, to call someone else. The window I put in came out of a 1979 explorer, and I put it in my 77 Explorer.
The seal works, and does not leak, but I did not care for the fit that well.

This is a very comon problem even at the glass shops. This is because as I said, they are used as a service replacement 1973-1996. But the fitment on the older thicker windows is not acceptable, well at least to me.

Probably gave you the 1980-1996 Solid window seal. E0TZ-1042084-A

I agree, and I think you are right with thre seal. However, since it was such a bear to do, I am going to roll with it for now, and come back to this and try to get the right seal and tackel it another day.
One thing I learned, was not to go cheap, go to the parts vendors who are known for their quality products. You might pay more, but you are going to get good parts.
I am not a big fan of aggravation
