So I just found out I've got an early 99

So after reading through a TON more posts on here and looking at my truck Ive realised Ive got an early 99. Actually my truck was assembled in july of 98.

My question is..... How bad is it to have a 98 over a 99 like everyone else?

Are there some common mods people do to the 98's to make them more like the 99's?

Thanks for everything yall have already done, this site is great!!

It isn't a problem at all. The man differences are the turbo, up-pipes, plenums, pedestal and spyder as well as the brakes. I don't have the list of differences on this computer but someone will come by and post it for you.

Welcome man! If you want to make it a late 99 we are happy to help and it isnt all that expensive.

I found a post with all the differences as far as parts go, but it didnt really say anything about the real world differences. Thats really what I'm looking for.

If you want to start dong a bunch of modifications and adding power, you'll have some parts to change. For normal driving and simple mods, there's not really anything major to worry about.

Might sound like alot but you got what I don't is forged rods, better building block for heavier modding if you choose that path. Welcome to FTE..

You have a 99' Don't let the mfg date throw you. Mine was born in Aug/98. There are some differences, but nothing that's a show stopper. Hey, you have an adjustable lumbar on your seats . Welcome, all kinds of good information here. We'll keep her in TOP shape.

Early 99 isn't so bad. Like Rifraff said the turbo and stuff is smaller. Some people like the smaller turbo because it spools up faster. There are strengths and weaknesses in both early and late 99 trucks. I think you will love the truck though.

Nothing wrong with an early 99. Our little turbos make a nice whistle. Our smaller injectors get better fuel economy. You will have issues with the air filter! Whenever you buy a 99 air filter from a store, its always the wrong one. I just bought a bunch on ebay and don't worry about it. Other than that...no big wup.

I do kinda miss my e99 whistle since I swapped in the van turbo last weekend, but now I got a cool turbo bark / fart when I let off the go pedal LOL. Unfortunately as you already found the e99 dually is the only one with similar drivetrain parts to the late 99 and up IIRC. Don't make any sense, but it doesn't matter, you still got a great truck. If you want some performance out of it, drop in a set of single shot injectors and a tuner to run them, and you'll love it. Or leave it be- either way its a FORD! Welcome to FTE!!

Welcome, I've got the early 99. The only bad thing is the stock air box, replace it first. I wiped my wheel out due to the crappy design.

my truck was built 3/98 the motor was built 1/98...if you just want a liitle more power for now add in a 99.5-03 HPOP and the IDM or mod your IDM and that will give you more power over what you got now
if i was to do it again i would not swap out the turbo.. for far less $$$ you can put on a D66 turbo from beans..its a drop in turbo for the early birds... with a good set of sticks you can get 450 HP out of her.. the D66 was very new when i swaped over.. 4 years latter and the D66 has not had one bad word...

early 99 has a 110V IDM 99.5-03 have a 120V.. the right resistor makes them both a 140V..
the higher the Volts the faster it shoots fuel..going from a early 99 strait to a 140V will give you 20 - 25 HP more.. i know i felt a SOTP diff's....

I'm open to a 20-25 hp bump...on the cheap...
