Motorcraft FL2016 oil filter same as Fram?

I was at Walmart this morning looking for a oil filter. Right next to the 2016 filters was the Fram equivalent for about $1 less.

I looked at both, and both appear to be the exact same thing. They both have the same 5 patent numbers stamped on the plastic piece. I didn't count the number of pleats but they looked to be about the same.

Is Motorcraft getting parts from Fram? I know the Motorcraft vs Fram spin-ons aren't the same for my F150.

I too have looked at them. All stamps are the same, they look completely identical. But there are those that feel no matter what that there is some difference in the two, even though it looks like they are produced at the same place. Personally, for the $1 difference in price, I choose the Motorcraft. Its just not worth it if there IS a difference.

I agree with ssharber. I looked at both a couple weeks ago and they seem identical....but for the price I would go with the motorcraft.

The Fram CH-9549 is the same as the M/C and Racor. If the patent # are there and the bottom seal is made out of the pleated type material then it is a Racor made Fram boxed filter. Main thing is to make sure someone didn't sw. a diff. brand into the box.

Ford/Motorcraft does not make that filter. It is a Racor filter and yes the Fram is identical to the Motorcraft because both filters are actually Racor's. As mentioned, just look for the patent number.

Check out the 6.0 forum (and even this forum) as it has been discussed/debated 1,000 times. If this website was working properly I would search the 6.0 forum for the post where the data sheets and everything are posted on the subject. People have called and written to Fram, Motorcraft, and Racor and those responses are buried in these forums. My computer just doesnt like this website for the past week so it would take me forever to search it.

From the 6.0 tech folder.

The 6.0 and 6.4 use the same oil filter so everything here applies to a 6.4 as well.
