As far as I know, there's no way to disable the pesky sensor. According to previous post's on this forum, guys are cranking up their tire pressure to silence the sensor. My comes on in cold weather.

yeah i had them checked at discount tire, my dad bought his 2008 6.4L in august 2007 and put brand new mickey Thompson baja atzs tires on it, last February . he decided to go back to a smaller truck so we traded wheels and tires since he had the nicer wheels and tires, before he traded it in. my truck i bought on close out in jan 09. Any way make a long story short his factory 20'' lariat rims do not have tpsms in there. is there any way to get around having to buy new tpsms?

I don't know any way to get around them unless you buy the tires outright, then have someone you know in the tire business mount them without the sensors.

If you know someone at a tire shop, you could probably have them do the swap for you. May cost ya a little for the swap but will definitely cheaper then buying new ones.

I put new valve stem sensors on my '10 aftermarket wheels and they dont work. Ford has block that doesnt allow a new code written. Im still waiting for a way to override the whole thing and go without.

You have a sensor in your glove box for retraining the TPMS however you can not simply disable the system all together. In the winter I run a lower tire pressure since I am not towing and want the better ride. I lower all my tires 10+ pounds and retrain the TPMS so the light doesnt come on. In the summer I retrain it again based on the increased tire pressure for towing.

How do you retrain it? Sounds like it could be my ticket.

Its in your manual:

Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position, then press and release the brake pedal.
Cycle the ignition switch from the OFF position to the RUN position 3 times, ending in the RUN position.
Press and release the brake pedal.
Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
Turn the ignition switch from the OFF position to the RUN position 3 times, ending in the RUN position.

The horn will sound once and the indicator will flash if the training mode has been entered successfully. If equipped, the message center will display TRAIN LF TIRE.
Place the Tire Pressure Monitor Activation Tool on the LF tire sidewall opposite (180 degrees) from the valve stem. Press and release the test button on the Tire Pressure Monitor Activation Tool. The horn will sound briefly to indicate that the tire pressure sensor has been recognized

Within 2 minutes of the horn sounding, place the Tire Pressure Monitor Activation Tool on the RF tire sidewall opposite (180 degrees) from the valve stem and press and release the test button to train the RF tire pressure sensor.

Do not wait more than 2 minutes between training each sensor or the SJB will time out and the entire procedure must be repeated. Repeat Step 7 for the RR and LR tires. The procedure is completed after the last tire has been trained. When the training procedure is complete, the message center (if equipped) will display TIRE TRAINING COMPLETE. For vehicles not equipped with a message center, successful completion of the training procedure will be verified by turning the ignition switch to the OFF position without the horn sounding. If the horn sounds twice when the switch is turned to the OFF position, the training procedure was not successful.

Only works if the tires match the PSI rating on the pillar sticker.

Not so on my truck. Light used to come on around 70 psi because TPMS was set for 80 psi. Right now trained at 65 which means they probably drop to 60 in the cold and still no light.
Maybe Im just lucky

I think you may be just getting lucky and the PSI is close enough that it's not tripping. Your sticker probably says 65/80 (front/rear) or something. Because of this, you may be getting some leeway because it's expecting the tires to be 65/80 and you may have rotated them, front to rear and rear to front, if that makes sense.

My sticker says 65 PSI on all 4 corners but I'm running 50 PSI tires. I've probably attempted to train half a dozen times right after getting the truck. It would reset the light but after about 20-40 miles, it would eventually come back on. I eventually gave up trying and just monitor the tires manually.

Checking the pressure cold still shows me at 50 PSI though. I actually think mine are pretty close to the threshold. I went on a week long trip to Shaver Lake (California) a while back. Sometime during the drive up into the mountains, the light actually went off and stayed off the entire time we were there. When I made the trip back home and got back to normal altitude, the light came back on along with the message.

Correct, my original pressure was 65/80. I rotated the tires and the light came on. Dropped the pressure to 62/65, retrained the sensors and its been fine for more than a month now. I did the same thing last winter but I didnt rotate the tires last year.
Of course, now that I said it out loud the light will come on the next time I drive it. LOL
