A question nobody's ever asked

This is about '53-'56 F100 rear axles. Is the carrier (what the tubes are connected too) cast iron or forged steel. What I really need to know is: can they be welded? Thanks....Rod

I have welded 64 Chevy rear ends where the ring gear tried to escape.
I have a couple of winters quick change cases that hafe numerous weld marks where tabs have been attached - the were originally ford/stude 1 tons.

Cast steel, I believe. Very weldable with the proper considerations

Do you think mild steel could be welded to it if it's cast iron?

Cast STEEL is steel, weld away. Are your tubes welded to the carrier? Look it over.
