1959 factory build 4x4 or not??

I have a 59 f-100 V.I.N is F10J9K54726 this website said its a 59 f100 4x4. But where a have read things on the net said its NOT a factory built 4x4. The same V.I.N numbers are on the cab glove box, the frame, and the title. The cab does have the piece from the door piller down to the floor board behind the seat. Could someone PLEASE clear this up for me?? Thank you in advance for any info.......

It was originally thought that f10 was a two wheel drive vin. After talking to another 57-60 4x4 expert on here, we found that f10 vins that had model codes that matched 4x4 trucks. The model code is found on the vin plate. -4speed

There was a great thread on this a while back where Bill (Number Dummy) had the full story as I recall. Doing a search might turn up the thread, but if not maybe somebody should do a p.m. to Bill to ask him to help clear it up. Stu

One of the publications I have cited '59 as the 1st year 4x4 was a Ford cataloged option. And here's the post Bill (number dummy) repiled to on a 59 F100 4x4:

Data plate should be on the glovebox door. Make sure you read every post in that thread. Some of the info contradicts numberdummys post.

Factory 4-wheel drive, your vin has the code A which is the front axle code.

118= 8ft bed
S= Special order paint
F18J is the model code, F18 is 4 wheel drive(still havent figured out the J, but I think it matches the engine)
26H= 26th of august built
F= 4 speed trans
A= Front axle ratio of 3.89:1
02=Rear axle open diff 3.89:1
5600=gross vehicle weight
126=net horsepower
4000= rpm at which the horsepower was rated
6602= D.S.O District sales office code

Your Vin=
F10=f100
j=223 six cyinder
9=1959
K= Kanas city
54726= build #
