What are your plans for the truck when it's done? Is it going to be a weekend ride to the local mall or do you plan to use it offroad extensively? If it's just for looks, then chromo the 1/2 tons and call it good. If you plan to actually use the 4x4 offroad (as in mud, trails, sand, etc) then spend the money now and go with the tons. Just be prepared to spend some money and get them chromo'd now vs. later when they break on the trail.

Why the body lift? ever so unattractive in my opinion.
With some common sense, you can make a well maintained stock 60 front last with 44's and just a mild 400. Ex., no cutting the wheel and hammering it, backing off when it starts hopping ect. But no question about it, if you can afford to chromo the 60, by all means do it.

I personally don't think that a stock D60 will last very long at all on 44s. I broke stock outers runnin 42s and a mild 351M. I even broke 35 spline outers with 42s. Now that I have 44s, I've broke an outter and a inner shaft. The inner broke after the outer twisted off and got wedged. Usually, I try to take it easy on stuff, and it does seem to break easier when I'm being careful. One big thing about the life of a front axle though, is if its locked or open. If its open, it will tend to last longer. When its locked like mine, it will break a lot easier. Just something to think about.
