Better off getting directly from ford or IH. Parts store ones aren't the best..

I am having the same problem with my 97 F350. When it the speedo drops out I can touch the braker fuse for the speedo and it will pick right up and go back to working. What yalls thoughts on that?

First welcome to the forum.
Second Id recommend you to began a NEW THREAD and link this one there. Anyway maybe the fuse is going south or a bad connection.
Good luck.

Hello everyone! I know this is an old tread but I'm having the same issue with my 97 7.3. I went ahead and replaced the VSS but it did not solve my problem. Any other suggestions? I've been out of state for 6 weeks and I came back to this problem. It was running great when I left.

Do you see a number in the odometer display, or is it blank?

The odometer seems to be working fine. I don't think it's counting but it's displaying.

Sounds like there's still something going on between the VSS and the dash. Wiring fault, possibly or a bad connector. If you could find one from a junkyard truck or on craigslist, you could try swapping in a new dash cluster (or just the speedometer head) and see where that gets you.

Interior lights work fine. The wiring harness seems fine. I pulled every one of the fuses which were all fine. I could try to clean the terminals on the sensor harness again. Any suggestions for what to use? I would assume there is another magnet in the diff but I feel like I may have bigger problems if I have a piece of metal floating around in the rear diff.

Ok.um...the tone ring in the diff could have come loose i suppose.but that is a long shot and i have not seen many but at this point if you have a cluster that powers up(you do) a new ford sensor ... and wiring good.a check of the tone ring may be in order.

Pull the cover off the diff.look at the ring for being loose on the carrier, broken and in pieces in the bottom or cracked or teeth missing.its a long shot but a possibility

Did you get a mptorcraft sensor?
How did you chheck wiring?
if you are confident the wiring is good i would pull it.
any idea when the diff was serviced last.may not be a bad idea anyway to service it annd take a look while you are in there.
especially for a crack.its a press fit on the carrier
