Headlight Relay upgrade w/ extras How To

today i will be upgrading my headlight harness to 10gauge w/relays.
I will be using Philip's Night Guide 9007 bulbs.
NightGuide
I will also be modding the hi beam circuit. I will make the low beams come on with the high beams. I will use a diode so the current doesn't bleed back so i will have low beam, hi beam, and hi & low beam with fogs all the time. giving the ultimate light out put. My only concern will be the heat from the bulbs when low and hi are on. I have a blue LED switch to control the low/hi function.
Pics and diagram will be posted soon. I could also run daytime running lights off a relay switch by keyed current but i decided just to turn the light switch on instead. this mod will require no modification to the original harness. you will see with pics. fun fun fun

I also look forward to this mod. Have often wanted to have lows, highs and fogs on at the same time. But I do not want to cut up the factory harness.

I'm going to mod mine with 30 amp relays and set it up so I can run the fogs with the high beams. I don't see any reason to run the lows at the same time if the fogs are on. That way the bulbs don't get too hot. I haven't chosen a bulb yet. not a lot of choices in H13.

I have just always noticed that when you goto dim your lights, they both come on, and it makes a differance, so why not have the lows on with the highs. I love having light.

if you get the fog light mod done. pull your hi beam switch back to the flash and hold it there. you will be surprised at all the light. your fogs are low, the lowbeames are alittle higher and the hi beam is higher still. Its like a Huge spotlight. But time to get to work. I work slow so it might be around 9 or 10 befor I'm done. I like to make my mods look factory and done right.

subscribing......sounds interesting! I've already done the fog light jumper wire mod and upgraded to 9005 fogs. Driving in the DARK Alaskan winters you can NEVER have too much light on the roads.

I noticed that with my older trucks, but the '08 doesn't do that. I just figured that fogs would fill in for the low beams without putting the extra strain on the dual filament bulbs.

searching

after doing a lot of research... they have kits for this, of course the brite box which will activate the low and highs together, with a fog light option is $110 for diesels, and upgraded harness and relays are $70 from gos.

so about $200 mod, if you want little work and clean install

we will have to wait on the DIY figures

I bought a harness from DFUser that allows hi+low beams.

I did not know about this harness. well my harness and doing it my self cost around $40 so his harness would have been worth it. I recommend just buying his harness. I do have my low w/ hi on a switch and its plugged into the old light plug for the trigger. I used the old bulbs to put on the old harness. i just removed the bulb and filled it with rtv.
I also checked the voltage befor doing the mod at the bulb. I was only losing .5volt so it really wasn't worth it to do all the work. My switch has a diode on it so i could jump the hi and low beam wires together. Do not use a diode in the harness unless its just to turn on the relays. it will start on fire.

monster-4 are you saying the harness lights up low beam with the highs on, but not the highs with the lows on right? Also, does it upgrade the wires by useing relays and larger wire from the batt?

And lastly how much was this?

The pic is the same pic ths GOS uses. they want 79 just for the upgrade harness, then 129 for a brightbox to do the high/low mod. that would be almost 200 for what it sounds like you have. Odd thing to me is they show the exact same pic. So maybe i ma missing something.

curious what you paid, and how well it works.

Mine is wired to the battery with relays. According to the documentation and what I can see both low and high beams light up in the HI beam position and only the low beam in the normal position. I paid $74 for my harness but that was in 2007 so it looks like the cost went up a little.
I always thought you only need the BrightBox if you have DRL?

Relays. One set of wires/relays goes to passenger bulb and the other set goes to drivers side.

I will have to contact them. Definatly worth the price if you get the high/low mod with it. Will see what they say. All they would have to do is diode the harness to get that done. That and the fog mods, and i should have plenty of light. for $100.
