but thats not without it's flaws either.
see, the old c6 doesn't lock up to the engine solidly like these modern trans do.the converter is always open.just doesn't cut it with $4.40 fuel prices (we are nailed real good here in New England.)
so though you get OD,it's not anywhere as good as a manual trans or e40d/4r100.
then there was something about not being able to use OD while in 4wd with a GV iirc.well,some times the roads are nasty enough to want 4wd though it's easy enough to drive 40-45 mph or faster,so you'd be stuck going slow or 2wd when you would rather have wanted 4wd,then your in the ditch and wish you chose slower 4wd rather than faster od 2wd haha.

no,he's using the same case.they are the same basic trans David.
bare with me,as im no expert (obviously or id be building it rather than a shop i suppose lol) but this is how i know it very basically put;
ford just beefed it up finally and tried getting away from the poor "e40d" reviews i guess and renamed it the 4r100.
during this hd transformation however, ford introduced weaknesses of it's own, where there once were fine points of the e40d if im understanding correctly.though even with these faults,it was still a greatly improved version of the e40d.likely to last a lifetime as is behind the likes of an engine such as mine.
now though when an e40d/4100 is rebuilt to the latest '98+ hd specs,builders will use the best of both (plus updates ford didn't do) for a mighty hd hybrid.stronger than the oem 4r100 from ford that were placed behind the 3rd generation 7.3l.
now with the idi engine,a 4 stud converter will be used of course instead of the 6,our correct year solenoid pack and latest front e40d front pump to make it fully workable still with the older ecm.
so it's guts where it counts will be strong,but the parts made to work with our engines (which isn't a weakness at at all) are used to make it function as always.
i may have some things wrong there,but thats the basics of it as i understand it.
as to what the whole lists of differences are,i dunno lol.here are like 55 upgrades just from the first gen to second gen 7.3l and i dunno how many more from that to the '97 and then the latest in '98+ with the 4r100 spec.then with whatever builders know to do on top of this spec.mine tried telling me,but i don't speak that language haha.it was clear he knew what to do and that was all i needed.after the specs of which made me dizzy,he says in my language; this is what i do to all of them.all the sd's with plows and dumps and the guys love 'em.i said great cus thats what iv got but just with the lower hp engine.that'll do her,i'll drop her off soon.
the aftermarket controller anyway though.........perhaps that would be next. though not required.just to get away from ford hack/afterthought setup with dome light fuses and hazard switches interfering with trans operation.it would be the end all cure of chasing your tail electrical issues with the thing.now after a couple of them frigging up my work days a couple times,i can see the big advantage there too.
but if i do,it's not going to be soon.this is enough sting for now lol.
