Ford PATS keys

Is there a code scanner or softwere that I can purchase to program Ford keys. Why does everyone say that you must go to the dealer. The dealer does not have any magic wands to program keys. They must a scan tool like everyone. Does anyone know where to purchase the tool

You don't need it if you have 2 programmed keys. With 2 programmed keys, you can program up to 6 more. You can also go to a locksmith, that has the equipment, to get them programmed.

Here a link to a programmer...

Transponder keys, transponder detector, keys & cars with transponders, TCL-1, RW2, H72PT, H72-PT, ASP tcl 1 SDD, RW2, NGS, H72, H72-PT,H74-PT, Key Tech - LV Sales Inc., Distributor

For $5,000.00 !!!

If thats too much here's another one...

Hickok Automotive Diagnostics HIK 8008LB - Locksmith PATs Programming NGS

For only $1,995.00

What the dealer or a locksmith may charge is way cheaper than buying a piece of equipment to do it.

He is correct, I bought my 07 from a local dealer, and got ONE PATS key. While the Stealership wanted 40 bucks each plus 100 dollars to cut/program them I elected to purchase two PATS keys(uncut of course) on ebay for 10.00 each.
I then had to bite the bullet, and take it to the Stealership to have them cut,and programmed.
They worked great, and at least I didnt have to pay Ford,s rediculos prices for the keys.

Ford keys

What happens if you only have one key or no keys. If you bought 2 new blank keys could you do it any other way. Are the scanners you mentioned a regular code scanner or is the scanner just for keys. There must be a cheaper price solotion

if you only have 1 key, there is only 1 way to cheaply get 2 or more PATS keys

eBay

I've been buying PATS keys off eBay for years. usually for the tune of $5-10 shipped for each key.

Once you have another key, take it to the Dealership (or equipped locksmith) and have them program the 2nd key to your Ford. It litterally takes only minutes...but they charge in 1/2 hour increments. I paid $40 for the service last time on my 2003 Mustang.

Once you have 2 keys, you can easily program anymore keys you need for free. It sucks, but you are essentially stuck with a $50-60 charge to get that 2nd key.

I'll add that an independent locksmith that has the equipment to do it will most probably be a little cheaper than the dealer. They may both hit you for a 1/2 labor, but usually independent shops charge less per hour. Call around for shop hourly rates and you'll be surprized at the difference in prices. We have several Ford dealers in the area and the hourly labor rate varies from a high of $120 per hour to a low of $75 per hour. Most independent shops charge $60-$80 per hour. It's all relative to their overhead expenses. The fancy places have more overhead expense so they'll charge a higher hourly labor rate.

I've bought PATS keys for my '95 Bird, '01 Merc, and this '07 off ebay as tylus said. I also get the key fob button thingys.... remotes I mean.

You get the blanks there, then get any hardware store guy to cut them. I purchased two keys last, paid the hardware store for the two, then had him actually cut the one's from ebay ... then I just gave him back his blanks.

As long as you start with two programed keys, the vehicle will program the rest. It actually reprograms all of them. You have to use all keys in one session if you want them all to start the truck. If you don't use a key then, it will still open the doors. Two are usually needed to prevent someone like a parking valet from making keys with only one.

With the remotes, you only need the one to program extras.

I've found the process outlined in the owners books, but the vendor "mykeyless-1" on ebay sends instructions with the keys and remotes. I've also used "keys_star" with great results.

I'm beginning to wonder if a keys sticky should be made.

it's such a common post. I'd say PATS discussions are in the top 5 most asked things here on FTE.

something that covered the following topics would be nice:
1. only 1 key - how to get 2 keys working
2. have 2 keys - how to program spare key
3. using a Fusion key/fob combo
4. location and programming the remote access door keypad

Great idea.

And ... to add to the list .... programming each remote with that person's favorite seat settings. My cars don't do it, but the '07 FX4 does. My wifes remote causes the seat to adjust to her setting, then my sets it back to mine.

my Expy does that also...I think my 06 FX4 had the option, but we never used it.

edit: Got bored watching Jackass and made up a whole PATS thread.
