08 F250 6.4L Diesel Performance help??

I have a 2008 f250 SUPER DUTY with a 6.4l diesel. i recently got a 35ft 5th wheel toy hauler and it is all my truck wants...and some. i get 6.7mpg, not to mention its a load on hills etc.

i've seen some (Bully Dog) units that help MPG and HP, but know nothng about them

any suggestions would be appreciated, with pro's/con's to be aware of of using them.

thanks

dont buy any off the self tunner. that would be my suggestion. They are bad for your truck. the dont tune everything that is needed. and they more than likely wont help mpg either. you really shouldnt buy any performance mod with the intent to get better mpg after all they are performance mods. If you do get any, witch wont be much, it is just a bonus. If you look at it this way you wont be disapointed when you dont get any mpg gain. If you are going to tune your truck you should go with a tunner that offers custom tunning. for the 6.4 I highly recomend getting the Spartan Phalanx. Matt at Spartan makes some really awesome tunes for these trucks. The only other one that I would suggest is the SCT with custom tunes from Eric at innovativediesel.com here is a link to the spartan stuff. Spartan Diesel Technologies You will not be dissapointed if you went this rout. Trust me you will if you go with a "canned tunner". As a rule of thumb if they offer shift on the fly then it is a "canned tunner" and not very health for the truck.

I would also recommend checking out the 6.4 specific threads... there is a lot of info on these tuners. DPF deletes, factory warranty considerations, there is a lot to consider. It sounds like Spartan has the best setup though... I'm about to bite.

I have been towing my 36 foot fifth wheel trailer with the 275 tune for a while. I would not rec. this unless you keep an eye on the temps. and I also installed a water/meth kit to keep my temps down on the big hills. Spartan makes tow safe tunes that defuel when you hit high temps.Spatan def. gets my vote.

I would only use one tuner on a 6.4 Spartan.

Does using a Spartan tuner without pulling off the dpf/cat help the mpg or do you need to get a dpf/cat delete system too?

Everyone I know with a 6.4 did the dpf/cat mod. The dpf is very restrictive.
